CD Storage Rack, Modified to Accommodate Over-sized Collector CDs
By Rob Miller from Simi Valley, CA on January 20, 2010
I would recommend this item to a friend.
Comments:
For collectors of special, over-sized (6 1/4") CDs, here is what I did. The INTERIOR height dimension is 5 3/4" is the EXTERIOR dimension. I was able to carefully remove the bottom oak board which was mounted inside the two end pieces. I replaced this with a new oak board across the bottom, mounted (glued and screwed) to the outside of the two end pieces. This gave me an interior height of 6 1/2". By removing the vertical wooden dowels, it will now hold 29 collector CDs, with room for 2 more on top, for a total of 31 collector-case CDs. I stained the new board to match the original, and it all looks just as good as the factory job. I modified two of these units, which now sit on the top ledge of my roll-top desk.
Pros:
These units are assembled using the "biscuit" joint process, with only minimal glue. With reasonable care, these units can be disassembled (and reassembled) relatively easy.
Cons:
Need to buy a standard 3/4" oak board and a small piece of masonite for new backing material.
