You can't buy more home theater fun for $50.
This is a can't-lose AV component. My wife even applauded this purchase . . . afterwards. Bumps and rumbles contribute outrageous added value to every action movie. If you thought a subwoofer added some thunder to your movies, you ain't heard nothing yet. This is theme-park level entertainment in your home theater. These are fun. They are easy to set up. And they provide startling excitement to the movie experience. The shakers themselves are about the size and weight of a robust 5" speaker. With a padded vibrator where the speaker cone would sit, you simply screw them into frame of your chair or sofa. I actually built platforms to put under my chairs the time around, because I didn't want to fuss with my new chairs. Typically, you flip the seating over and look for a place to mount the Shaker. These items ran cool in my setup. Then you run wires to the amplifier, following the provided diagram. In a previous setup, I simply found a rear, lower corner of frame and screwed right through my black leather covering into the frame. I used my own 1.5" coarse sheetrock screws (not the included ones) and got a snug fit. [Consider: it's a dark theater room; the 4 very small holes would not be visible without a careful search; and the exposed Shakers don't interfere with anyone seated behind, although a curious child might tug on the (very) low voltage wires.] We NEVER found the effect intrusive on lower bass tones from voices, music, or random low frequency noise. The Shakers were silent until they were called upon by appropriate low energy action on the screen. Pacific Rim was relentlessly active during the frequent fights between robots. Desolation of Smaug was more often surprising, waiting on genuine slamming of weapons into the ground or the rampaging dragon when they shook our chairs.
ProsYou're gonna love'em. They contribute greatly to movie watching. One shaker per chair is perfect. You'lle want two for a sofa.
ConsYou are going to need an amp for the shakers. A subwoofer plate amp is a bit crude but it would work.
